Once all traces of black mold have been removed from your home following a mold inspection, keep it away by completing some simple steps.
Moist conditions provide a breeding ground for black mold. Get into the habit of drying off damp or wet surfaces as soon as they become apparent. Your bathroom or kitchen are the two likeliest rooms to be at risk. Keep clean towels on hand to dry off counter tops, sinks, bathtubs, and shower stalls. If humidity is an issue several times a week, purchase a small dehumidifier to help keep rooms dry. Allow fresh air to circulate through your home by opening windows on nice days and turning on a couple fans.
Insulate Exposed Pipes
Condensation can form on exposed pipes, especially after the weather turns warmer throughout the day. Covering pipes with thermal insulation will prevent this from occurring. The material that the insulation is made out of will block moisture. Insulation is also helpful in preventing pipes from freezing during the coldest months of the year. Measure the length of each pipe that you wish to cover. Wrap a piece of preformed insulation around each one. Seal the edges of the pieces with thermal tape.
Apply Caulking And Weatherstripping
Check for gaps around your windows and the pipes that lead out of your home. If any are present, fill them with caulk so that moisture cannot enter your home. Place a tube of caulk into a caulking gun and apply a thin, even layer over the exposed areas. Once the product dries, it will not shrink or peel off. You may even notice a decrease in your energy bill by being able to keep the temperature maintained inside of your home.
Use Vinegar And Baking Soda To Clean
Vinegar and baking soda are excellent cleaning agents that will keep your home sanitary and fresh. Disinfected surfaces are not favorable conditions for black mold. Sprinkle baking soda on your carpet and use it to remove surface stains throughout your home. Put a small amount of vinegar in a spray bottle and mix it with water. Use this solution a couple times each week to keep your bathroom sanitized. Vinegar is suitable for other parts of your home that you would like to freshen up, as well.
Once you complete the preceding steps, enjoy spending your time in pleasant surroundings without having to worry about black mold reappearing.
